A retired Ohio lawyer was fined $6,500 for the unauthorized practice of law for providing legal advice to clients of his father’s law firm.
The Ohio Supreme Court said on Tuesday that it was “most troubled” by Eric C. Deters’ “struggle to accept his diminished role in the legal profession” as evidenced by referring to himself as a litigator at his disciplinary hearing.
Deters retired in 2014 after his license was suspended in Kentucky, the court said. He transferred his law firm to his father and worked there as an office manager and client liaison, it said.
