Chennai: As ousted AIADMK leader VK Sasikala is likely to walk out of jail on January 27, her lawyer is expected to complete all legal formalities of her release by today as tomorrow is a public holiday.
Sasikala, a close aide of late Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, is presently admitted at a Bengaluru hospital for COVID-19 complications.
The expelled AIADMK leader, who has been lodged in Bengaluru’s Parappana Agrahara Central Prison since February 2017 in a corruption case, was admitted to the Bowring and Lady Curzon Medical College and Research Institute last week after she complained of fever and breathlessness.
The 66-year-old was later shifted to the Victoria Hospital in Karnataka’s capital by the authorities of the prison.
Sasikala expected to be released on Jan 27
Sasikala is expected to be released from the jail on January 27 after having served four years imprisonment in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case.
As per the hospital’s latest bulletin, Sasikala is stable and comfortable and is taking oral food normally. “She is walking with support now. She is being treated as per standard protocol for COVID-19. She is being continuously monitored,” the hospital said in a statement.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and AIADMK Joint Coordinator K Palaniswami had recently said that Sasikala will not be admitted into the party.
